I thought this would be just like
the cat show, passionate people with pigeon tats, pigeon bags, pigeon
tees, pigeon totes. But it was more understated than that. Aside from
the man I saw before I went in who was dressed in a giant pigeon costume, there wasn’t much to
photograph apart from the pigeons themselves.Before going to The British Homing World Show of the Year
I hadn’t realised that the common pigeon we see every day comes in many
strange varieties. Some with barely-there beaks, others with heads
obscured by feathers, others looking like they’d been in a wrestling
match with a set of curlers. I wondered how much of this was the result
of excessive grooming or selective breeding and how much was natural selection.
